Papicha – mini reseña
👩🏻🌹Papicha 🌹👩🏻 Un grupo de universitarias argelinas en los años 90’ trata de vivir (de hecho simplemente terminar una carrera) sin ser reprimidas por algunos extremistas religiosos y una aparente guerra civil; es cruda y un tanto predecible, pero tomar la tensión, temor y el dolor de estas chicas, es nuestra elección.
Al ver los comentarios del tráiler de esta película, no hay mucho más que quejas porque los argelinos se oponen a que su cine siga hablando de lo mismo y sienten que no se está representando bien su historia, y mucho menos la de las mujeres de ese país, aún así, hay una que otra opinión que afirma que lo que cuentan en #Papicha (que además tiene una directora argelina), sí pasó y no puedo dejar de pensar que al terminar la película una persona en la sala lloraba fuertemente… adiós a la opinión de las masas pues supongo que algo de cierto y fiel se percibe en este montaje.
Me sentí tanto afortunada por conocer más de la Argelia de los años 90’ que vivió 10 años aterrorizada por extremistas y parte de su ejército, como profundamente ignorante por no conocer este tipo de hechos que marcaron – y probablemente lo sigan haciendo en muchas partes del mundo – a millones más.

✨🌊🔥Portrait of a Lady on Fire✨🌊🔥 Me duele un poco no haber entendido la revelación que muchos críticos vieron en esta película; no quería que me gustara porque le gustó a la crítica o porque ganó un premio en #Cannes, si no porque quería que me conmoviera como a los demás. Dos chicas (una pintora y otra aristócrata) se enamoran en el s. XVIII, por supuesto lo ocultan, por supuesto quieren que una de ellas se case con alguien rico y que la mantenga todala vida, y un largo etcétera que nada más no me sorprendió. Bueno, la historia de la criada sí.
Creo que me falta verla con subtítulos e igual me llega más. ‘Who knows’. Vale la pena si quieren ver una historia de amor imposible que con muchas sutilezas construye relación que se ve verdadera; supongo que ahí está el logro de la historia, es hacernos ver que el amor también se construye/se construía de otras formas. ☝🏻

Late Night – movie – Emma Thompson & Mindy Kalling
🌝🎭 #LateNight. Yo no sé por qué no hay más películas protagonizadas por Emma Thompson. Aunque pueda resultar predecible y caricaturesca, es una de esas comedias románticas que se necesitan porque aunque hace un énfasis obvio y bobo sobre cómo el machismo impera en la industria del entretenimiento, lo hace de forma muy justa, y ligera, y ¿por qué no hablar de eso ahora que se puede y que alguien como Mindy Kalling tiene el poder de llegar y escribir este tipo de películas?
No es de ninguna manera memorable por lo predecible que es, pero, resulta incluso más divertida que el bodrio sobrepublicitado de Ocean’s 8 o The Intern (las dos con Anne Hathaway, #fail). Gracias por una película que aunque habla todo el tiempo del machismo, no se siente forzada para estos tiempos como #Ghostbusters, #Oceans8 etc.,etc…
—— 🇬🇧I don’t know where are all the movies lead by Emma Thompson these times ! #Latenight surely is predictable and cliché, but is one of those rom-coms needed nowadays because even if it talks clearly and purely about sexism in the entertainment industry (and well, in any actually), it’s classy, fair, light, and funny.
Why don’t we allow ourselves to talk even more about these issues taken by the hand of #MindyKalling who, has now the power to get to a studio and put on a screen this kind of movies ? It’s not going to transcend to a smash hit, but it is definitely funnier than the overrated and overhyped Ocean’s 8 or The intern (both with Anne Hathaway…wow). Thank you Mindy, for a movie that speaks all the way about sexism and feels necessary not as Ghostbusters, Ocean’s 8 etc.,etc…

Ad Astra – movie – mini review

Una experiencia muy interesante; o te metes en la película y te clavas con su discusión sobre la humanidad y lo que se debe o no hacer, el egoísmo humano, sentido de la existencia, familia, etc. o te la vas a pasar viéndole ‘hoyos’ a la película. Preferí irme por lo primero, porque en el mismo tono que ‘Arrival’, empiezas a pensar en el futuro y cómo aunque lleguemos a Neptuno, igual y no sirve de nada.Hablando de la película de Amy Adams, esta no llega a ser tan reveladora y en realidad no hay un giro de tuerca impresionante como en la de Amy, pero la forma en que está contada y las secuencias de acción claves antes del clímax, te meten en esa batalla de emociones que tiene ‘Roy’ (Brad Pitt).
Es un dramonón de ciencia ficción muy interesante y, aún con sus pequeños hoyos, bastante contundente sobre su reflexión de la relación tecnología – humanidad. No sé si quien vio Blade Runner en su estreno original sintió que eso podía llegar a pasar, pero en Ad Astra, se siente muy palpable y da un poco de ansiedad pensar que ya estamos en ese punto de egoísmo.

—— 🌔A very interesting experience as it makes you wonder about everything since the beginning, but you have to chose if your questions are about the shape or the substance. The substance leads you to question a lot about mankind and selfishness, the sense of our existence, family ties and lot more. I took the substance path as I felt I was getting into something very similar in tone to ’Arrival’.
Ad Astra gets you close to the deep thinking about the future and why even if we get as far as to Neptune, maybe we’ll not be able to handle it in terms of humanity.
This movie is not as revealing as ‘Arrival’, but the storytelling and the key sequences leading to the climax, get you into Roy’s (Brad Pitt) constant and touching battle of emotions. A very interesting and huge science fiction drama, even with it’s various plot holes, it’s strong in its deliberation about the human relationship with tech.
I don’t know how people who when to see ‘Blade runner’ in it’s original screening felt, but Ad Astra feels definitely close and it gives you enough anxiety to think that we are already that selfish

Mindhunter Season 2 – mini review
👾Esperaba mucho de la segunda temporada y aunque no tiene tantas escenas con la tensión de la primera, cumple. Lo mejor es que los personajes están lo suficientemente bien desarrollados como para interesarnos por ellos y no sólo por el retrato que hacen de los asesinos. Es una combinación perfecta entre lo que quieres saber (o no, mejor) de los criminales y si Ford va a colapsar (que por cierto, dejaron un poco olvidado eso a partir del episodio 3) o cómo pisotean el trabajo de Wendy.
Claro que me pareció un tanto telenovelezco y ‘conveniente’ que uno de los protagonistas tuviera “al enemigo en casa”, pero por supuesto, que le agregó muchísimo a la historia. Me quedé pensando en cómo le hubiera ido a Mindhunter si hubiera salido con episodios semanales y creo que todo mundo estaría hablando de ella.
Qué impacto con el retrato que hacen sobre el caso principal (basado en un hecho real) y qué final, sin un mínimo de sangre es de lo más perturbador. Tengo que prometerme no maratonear esta serie por las noches.

👾I had my hopes at the highest with this one, and we had to wait so much for it ! It doesn’t carry the tension than the 1st one had in various scenes (let’s remember that finale with Ed Kemper and Ford face to face), but it definitely mantains the bar high. Best of it s that the characters are so well developed that we have a genuine interest for them and not only for what they dealing with, I mean great characterizations but Mindhunter is not there only to see in Wikipedia what really happened in real life.
It’s there to transmit a bit of the anxiety of it’s characters; perfect combination between what there is to know about the leads and about the criminals (maybe not that much of these last ones), I would have wanted for them to go further with Ford’s crisis and see Wendy’s sexist struggle with their chief.
Quite obvious the ‘twist’ of one of the main characters about having his enemy under his same roof, but hey that was key in this season. I wonder what would have happened with #Mindhunter if it had been broadcasted with weekly episodes… I think everyone would be talking about it.
What a shock the fidelity of the portrait of the murderers, and once again striking and – very – haunting finale. And with no blood nor extreme violence needed. I have to promise myself not to see this at night. 🌚

A Rainy day in New York – micro review
Entonces está todo este hermetismo sobre esta película que creo debió haber salido hace dos años, pero la sala está a reventar (como 200 butacas).
Me cuesta trabajo comenzar sin inevitablemente ver a Woody Allen en un nervioso #ThimothéeChalamet (Timmy, para sus fans menores de 20 años), pero lo que más me costó para meterme de lleno en la historia es creerme que los tres protagonistas de 21 años sólo usaran su teléfono para llamar como si esto fuera 1980.
En todo caso, qué placer es ver a #ElleFanning tan ingenua y espontánea y que cada película de Thimothée Chalamet sea buena (qué química tiene este escuincle con Selena Gomez). Probablemente no sea la película más original de la historia o tan entrañable como otras historias de Woody Allen porque el ritmo no es tan ágil y el conflicto es muy simple, pero sí vale mucho la pena “pasar” una tarde con mucha, mucha lluvia en Nueva York con un joven intenso, nervioso, caótico y al mismo tiempo adorable como ‘Gatsby’.
P.D. Sale #DiegoLuna y me queda la duda si con sólo compartir 2 minutos en escena con Sookie Waterhouse fue que se enamoraron…

There is a particular silence about this film, almost forgotten by movie fans because it was scheduled for 2018, but shelved due to a marketing conflict thanks to Wood Allen’s personal past and the Me too’s effervescence.
While I deal with my own debate about separating art from the personal life of it’s creators, I was surprised of how the theater was full with 200 people wanting to see this film. It’s quite difficult to get into this story as I kept thinking, why are they only 21 and using they’re phones to actually make phone calls like this was 1980.
In any case, what a joy to see Elle Fanning stealing every frame she’s in, so naive and spontaneous, also, how great is to see that every project of Thimothée Chalamet (Timmy for his fandom) is more than OK… . (great, great chemistry between Timmy and Selena Gomez). It’s not the most original film in the world, not even close best from Woody Allen because it feels quite slow and the main conflict find its resolution to easily, but at the same time is totally worth it and it was nice “to meet” this intense, nervous, conflicted and adorable young men spending his day on a rainy but always exciting NY.
P.S. Jude Law also makes great movies and is very underrated despite been at the top for years. BYE.

Scary stories to tell in the dark – mini review

Poco sabía de esta película salvo que Guillermo del Toro estaba involucrado en la producción y aunque no es para nada un clásico, es bueno saber que hay cineastas que tienen algo que decir en este género. Aunque probablemente el cine de suspenso y terror para adolescentes no esté en su mejor época porque este formato puede ser consumido más fácilmente en las plataformas de streaming, #ScaryStories es una buena propuesta, simplemente porque no pretende ser ‘la película’ del año.
Es Halloween, son los años 60’, hay un grupo de amigos adolescentes y un libro maldito. Evidentemente, también hay una mansión embrujada. La historia de Stella y cómo uno a uno de sus amigos van desapareciendo al parecer porque un espíritu maligno está matándolos en tiempo récord se mantiene interesante gracias a una producción impecable, y porque los monstruos sí dan miedo y porque queremos saber si la masacre parará en algún punto.
Que es predecible, sí. Que es boba, claro que sí. Pero tiene muy buenas actuaciones y no le voy a pedir más a una película de suspenso que no ¡gracias, no es un remake! BYE. P.D. Aunque no esté totalmente terrorífica, claro que ‘The Pale lady’ da miedo.

Little I knew about this movie but that Guillermo Del Toro was involved (I follow him on Twitter and he was extremely promoting it). It’s very good to know that these kind of films are made, because I feel the genre of teen suspense/horror has suffered from the new habits of media consumption as their audience don’t take that much interest and ‘teen films’ that get to be big tend to be superhero or romantic coms.
Whatever, #ScaryStories is good, simply because is not pretending to be more than what it is. Is Halloween on the 60’s in the US, and a group of teenagers, a cursed book and a big haunted mansion. This is the story about Stella and how her friends disappear one by one due to the cursed book; the movie is totally enjoyable just because it’s very well made, it’s monsters are actually haunting.
Good performances and I won’t ask for more; extra points for not being the remake of the remake. P.S. The Pale Lady is not easy to forget.
